Kabul Blasts and Attack on Pak Army GHQ

Earlier Attack on Indian embassy in Kabul was one of the deadliest in the recent past. This blast on the 7th July, 2008 killed at least 58 and wounded another 151. The suspected suicide car bombing took place at the gates of the embassy when officials were trying to get inside the premises.

Not so surprisingly enough, that blast was blamed on ISI (Pakistan’s premiere intelligence agency) in a New York Times report published on 1st of August, 2008.

However, earlier, on July 21st, Pakistan handed over to India, comprehensive evidence of Indian involvement in a number of terrorist acts on its soil.
According to sources, a dossier containing proofs of India’s involvement in subversive activities in Pakistan was handed over by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to his Indian counterpart Dr Manmohan Singh during their recent meeting at Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt.

A substantial part of the shared material dealt with the Balochistan insurgency and Indian linkages with the insurgents, particularly Bramdagh Bugti, Burhan and Sher Khan.

Pictures of their meetings with Indian operatives were part of the evidence, which also described Bugti’s visit to India and the meetings he had with Indian secret service personnel.

It mentioned of the India-funded Kandahar training camp, where Baloch insurgents, particularly those from Bugti clan, were being trained and provided arms and ammunition for sabotage activities in Balochistan.

In October 2008, another attack on Indian embassy rocked Kabul claiming 17 lives and injuring 76.

“We are pointing the finger at the Pakistan intelligence agency, based on the evidence on the ground and similar attack taking place in Afghanistan.” Afghan ambassador to USA, Javed Tayyab told the media in a special interview.

India had launched a decisive campaign to blame Pakistan for every terror activity in the region, one wondered why Pakistani officials had fallen asleep in that context to answer India in the same manner and unfold Indian activity on Pakistani soil.

While India had not only been active in Baluchistan, Afghan contacts and American shelter was allowing Indians and Israelis to sneak into Pakistan and carry on terror activities in FATA and Swat.

And response to Kabul blast this time was quick and decisive. A blast in Peshawar and then an attack on Pak Army GHQ at Rawalpindi.

But, as Army is having concerns on Kerry Lugar Bill and government is raising repeated alerts about Taliban taking over Pakistan, this attack on GHQ has raised issues about the safety of the critical Pakistani installations. Which is good music for president Zardari and Mr. Malik. Just to show that they have been reporting the factual position to the world and that Army really does not support their point of view.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister had been chanting the slogan of Waziristan operation since some time now. Without mentioning any foreign elements involved in orchestrating the stream of terror, he kept reiterating the need of hitting Waziristan with full force. While Army was not much willing for this operation, an attack on GHQ has placed question marks about the timing of the demand and need of this operation in Waziristan. Why would Army avoid an operation that would be critical for security of the country? Or was it really that critical for the security of the country? If no then has it really become important now? Does this attack satifies the need of Mr. Malik for an operation in Waziristan? Especially when, on the other hand Americans are considering to negotiate with Taliban..

And if Americans negotiate with Talibans and settle their terms with the help of Pashtuns, this war will shift to Pakistan, meaning Mehsud tribes and their aides fighting for something else (to destabilize Pakistan) under the name of Al-Qaeda with India and Israel. So the game seems to be changing now. With Karzai prepared to leave and Talibans being allured for negotiations, map of the war will be Pakistan, not Afghanistan.

Who will be responsible for bringing this war into the country? Who will be responsible for not hitting the right enemy? For nipping the evil not from the bud?

Missing links point to some serious security leaks within our own rows. And it is our national duty to point out those traitors inside our community at all levels and bring them to justice.
